2010 Update:
I'm a ninja record producer now.
When I was in UCLA Film School, back in the 80s, we would get permits and permissions to shoot our movies and videos...but when we didn't, we had to use stealth and cunning.
If you are caught shooting on the streets of Los Angeles, without a permit, the police may take away ALL you camera equipment and gear, then ticket and fine you.
Living in an apartment in Montrose, California, I can only record during a few hours during a few days each week, when everyone is gone to work...but not at all can I record drums in my bedroom.
So I used the gymnasium of CV Park. It was like shooting a film, rather than recording an album. Most of my location work has been in the movie business, not live concert recording.
But I liked it. It was a new room with new opportunities and a whole bunch of problems...which is why studio recording is easier...but--until I can build my HUGE HOME STUDIO, I may have to be a ninja producer some more.
More later.
